CHAW's Music To Keep You Strong
Have you ever been struggling and heard a song that was just what you needed at that moment? Research shows that music therapy my be beneficial for various mental health conditions, including depression, trauma and anxiety. Music can help us process emotions and feelings, motivate, help us become more focused, develop social connections, enhance creativity and allow us to express ourselves. Certain things happen in our brain when we hear music. Our brain produces more dopamine, a neurochemical associated with pleasure, which results in us feeling good and less cortisol, a hormone in our body associated with anxiety, which results in us becoming more relaxed. Plus, it matches our body rhythms (like heartbeat and breath) to the pace of the song. If we are stressed or upset, our body rhythms tend to speed up. In order to get back in balance emotionally, our body has physically relax slowing down your heart rate and breathing.
